My FIOS Router Hosed my Beta 2 Plans
I had planned to install this evening, multiple times, Visual Studio Team System Beta 2. Trying out a number of scenarios. I also had a standing problem that despite any port forwarding rules I was applying to my Actiontec MI424-WR router from Verizon (FIOS) I could get no access to the ports I specified. I found out I was not alone. It just doesn't seem to work as a rule.
In the end I took a trusty WRT54G I had sitting around and hooked it to the Actiontec with the output of one of the Actiontec ethernet ports as the Internet input to my Linksys (WRT54G); turned off the wireless on the Actiontec and then added my WRT54G as fully exposed in a DMZ. I assigned my port forwarding in the WRT54G and all is good. Now I have port forwarding again as I always did before FIOS and their seemingly crappy Actiontec router. It's frustrating I had to add one more router in the mix but it works now and it didn't work before.
So now it's time to go eat a bit of dinner and then likely fall asleep on the couch- though I need to come back up and do some Beta 2 work. We'll see.
